What is Critical Illness Insurance?
Critical Illness Insurance acts as a living benefit and can ensure you and your family are financially supported if the insured becomes critically ill. When you are diagnosed with one of the covered critical illnesses, you will receive a lump sum payment to help pay for expenses, medical bills, and other necessities. This affordable insurance allows you to concentrate on recovery, instead of your finances.
What types of illnesses are covered under this plan?
This is limited-benefit health insurance. With the exception of Cancer and medical procedures, you will receive 100% of your chosen benefit amount for each health event below. In the event you are diagnosed with cancer, depending on the form and/or stage of the disease, you will receive a partial benefit amount of 25% or the full benefit amount of 100%.
Who is eligible to enroll for coverage?
You and your spouse/domestic partner can apply for coverage. You can also select an optional rider on the application to provide $5,000 of coverage for your children.
I already have health insurance. Why do I need Critical Illness Insurance?
Your health insurance may cover some of your medical costs, but there are often out-of-pocket expenses, in addition to a loss of income if treatment is required. You can use your critical illness benefits to pay for deductibles, co-pays, out-of-network providers, travel expenses, treatment costs, childcare or however you choose.
Is a medical exam required to apply for coverage?
No, a medical exam is not required. Applying for coverage is quick and easy. When filling out the application, your acceptance will be based on the answers to your medical history.
Does Critical Illness Insurance reimburse for incurred medical costs?
The payment you receive is not based upon actual treatment expenses or to reimburse your incurred costs. Instead, based on your specific diagnosis, you are covered for the benefits you selected when applying for coverage.
When can I submit a claim for benefit payment under my Critical Illness coverage?
A critical illness diagnosed within the first 30 days of the policy’s effective date is not covered. After that period, you can submit claims for covered benefits. Pre-existing conditions are not covered.
Does payment go to me or the health care provider?
Your benefit is paid directly to you, so you can use the lump-sum payment to help cover whatever expenses you choose.
What if I have a reoccurrence of an illness?
Benefits are paid only once per lifetime for each unique covered event. However, every time a unique covered event occurs, you are eligible to receive the applicable benefits.
Does my coverage expire?
No, your coverage does not expire due to age. Benefits are available for your entire lifetime or until all benefits have been used. When an insured reaches age 70, the benefit amount in force will be reduced by 50%.
